Galveston Deep Sea Fishing as a Way of Life
from:In Galveston, deep sea fishing is more than just a tourist sport; it’s a way of life for many in the Gulf Coastal Region. When you visit the area, you’ll find the inner areas of the Gulf teeming with shrimpers from early morning to early afternoon; however, you’ll also see another fleet of ships embarking on their voyages early in the morning, disappearing out to sea, and returning at night. These Galveston deep sea fishing charters are taking adventurous individuals on excursions into the depths of the ocean to seek out big fish and exotic catches for the experience of a lifetime.
If you decide to visit the area from January to March, you’ll find that the best bite is coming from wahoo, which are ranging in size from about 50-75 pounds, making them a bit of a struggle to reel in. Of course, the bigger the struggle, the better the fish tale, so between these and yellowfin tuna that are around 100 pounds and can be extremely taxing on your energy level, it is totally worth the effort to go in the winter to Galveston. Deep sea fishing really picks up in the spring and summer, though.
From April to September, you’ll be able to catch just about anything that swims. Galveston deep sea fishing crews regularly find excellent specimens of king mackerel, mahi-mahi, red snapper, cobia, ling, grouper, and amberjack. If you go fishing at night, an overnight trip can produce much larger mahi-mahi, a good deal of wahoo, and a huge amount of blue marlin. Dorado are also common at this time of year when waters are warm and calm and Texas deep sea fishing is at its height.
When fall returns to the area, from September through early December, you’ll find that there is still some great Galveston deep sea fishing to be had. You can still catch a number of good sized red snapper, mahi-mahi (popular off the coast of California as well, thriving in cool waters), grouper, wahoo, and redfish (or red drum). In the winter, the Gulf of Mexico remains temperate, making it a good year-round fishing location, though some deep sea fishing species do head further south, making it difficult to find them in a one day or overnight excursion.
Next time you are on the Texas coast, Galveston deep sea fishing should be on your list of to-do’s. Don’t take the opportunity lightly – for many this is a way of life but for you and your friends or family, it might just be the once in a lifetime chance that you’ve been waiting for.
