Fishing for Treasures With Antique Fishing Equipment
from:Time is the medium through which we decide the value of items created or possessed. A classic is something that deifies the test of time, only to become a treasure sought after many years later. It's these old pieces our past that send a spark of nostalgia to a simpler time, and antique fishing equipment is no exception to this. Whether you’re young or old, beginner or professional, acquiring antique fishing equipment can develop into a driving passion.
Antique fishing equipment can include a wide variety of items, not just the rod, reel and tackle. Several collectors delve into all things angling, collecting objects like fishing licenses form the 1930s and before. It is really up to the collector what items he or she wishes to possess, but it is no doubt that there is a myriad of antique fishing equipment out there for anyone who wishes to gather up a little piece of history.
Vintage reels are a common desire amongst collectors and are highly sought after by serious collectors. Before the availability of stronger metal alloys, older reels were made out of a variety of metals including brass, iron and steel. Not only were they made of different kinds of metals then they are now, they were also made in a variety of different styles. Each of these unique designs had their flaws, and thus lost their usability when newer models came out. Even though they aren't practical, antique reels are both unique and beautiful.
Another article of antique fishing equipment is the bobber used before the conversion to Styrofoam was made standard. Old bobbers were made from a variety of materials, although usually they were made from the same material that is used to close wine bottles. You guessed it, old bobbers were made of cork. Bobbers are not nearly as sought after as antique reels, but still have there own value.
Probably the second most sought after article of antique fishing equipment are the lures that were used before the 1970s. Older vintage lures were created with a bit more flare than they are today. Antique lures sometimes replicated the fish to an almost exact degree. It is for this reason that they are so desirable amongst collectors.
So if your passion is angling and you have a love for the past, collecting antique fishing equipment may be the thing for you. There's a thousand and more treasures out there waiting for you, all you need is a little desire and an affinity for classics to find all the antiques that stood the test of time.
