Rebel Fishing Lures: An American Fishing Tradition
from:There are some pieces of equipment that are just a must in any angler's tackle box, and Rebel fishing lures are one such item. Founded in Fort Smith Arkansas in 1961 by George Perrin, the plastic mold injection company began making a small, minnow like plastic lure that would mimic the action of a fish in the water in 1963. Although not the mainstay of the company at first, the minnows were soon in high demand and Mr. Perrin set aside part of his production line to making various sizes of minnow shaped lures. The name Rebel actually came from the high school football team in Fort Hood, that was then and still is known as the Rebels.
The modern line of Rebel fishing lures includes far more than just the early minnow style of lure. Rebel fishing lures now boast saltwater lures, crankbaits, poppers and topwater lures, frogs, crawfish and bug lures and the ever popular Wee-R series which are thick, heavy bodied plug style lure that can be used in deep water fishing to track that trophy sized bass. In addition Rebel fishing lures can now be used from a Rebel built bass boat, some which have been highly effective in bass fishing tournaments across the United States.
Tips for Using Rebel Fishing Lures
As with any type of tackle, every angler has his or her favorites of the Rebel fishing lure line. Below are some general tips and strategies for using Rebel fishing lures in bass fishing in any type of water:
• In spring through late fall it is important to remember that big bass will be surface feeding, and the jumping minnow, one of the premiere of the Rebel fishing lures provides just the topwater action that will attract the big bass. By using a walk the dog or other topwater retrieval method along the top of vegetation lines and cover, the large bass will literally run to the surface after the jumping minnow. Try to cast about 20 feet beyond where you see the bass rising to the bait, then draw the minnow across the surface. The natural action of the lure plus the retrieval will mimic the action of an injured shad and will bring the aggressive feeding bass to the surface.
• For trolling for salmon one of the best Rebel fishing lures available is the Fastracs series. These amazingly realistic looking minnows with their divided tail section present the most effective method in mimicking baitfish and attract the salmon in any type of water. Fastracs come in a variety of sizes and colors to match the salmon's preference, and are ideal for fishing those shallow waters where larger salmon move to in the late summer and early fall seasons.
Rebel fishing lures are very durable and strong and have been proven in tournaments and derbies across North America and around the world. Their online store makes shopping from home easy and convenient if you don’t have a sporting goods store or bait shop close by.
