Salmon Fishing: Canada Has The Spot For You
from:There are a huge number of rivers, lakes, coastlines and tributaries that make salmon fishing – Canada and other locations, some of the most popular sports fishing areas in the world. Canada offers ocean and land-locked salmon fishing opportunities and there are a significant number of chalets, lodges, guides and charter services that are able to provide tips, strategies and even complete fishing packages.
The following is a list of the most common species of salmon and the best areas for salmon fishing. Canada has very diverse areas, so the list will be divided into western areas and the eastern salmon fishing spots off the great lakes.
Western Canada
Pacific coast of western Canada hosts a huge number of species that provide endless opportunities for salmon fishing. Canada, at least the coast of British Columbia, is home to five different species of salmon including Coho, Sockeye, Chinook, Chum and Pink. These salmon can be typically caught either off the shores of the rugged coastal area from Vancouver in the south through to the Alaskan border at the northern most part of the province. It is possible to charter boats in most of the villages and towns along the coast to move into the deep waters, providing opportunities to catch the big Chinooks and Chums.
North Vancouver on the mainland and Campbell River on Vancouver Island offer some terrific salmon fishing opportunities both from shore and in deep water. The rivers and tributaries in spring and fall also make for great salmon fishing, Canada is one of the best known for the beautiful fishing spots on the Fraser River just outside of the capital city of the province of British Columbia.
Eastern Canada
The salmon fishing, Canada’s eastern coast option, offers as many opportunities for both deep sea and fly fishing as the western coast does. The coastline of the Maritime Provinces tends to be more rugged than the Pacific Ocean coastline and the waters are more treacherous, definitely not for the inexperienced angler. Some of the best salmon fishing on the eastern side of Canada includes fishing the Miramichi River, the New Brunswick River in the small province of New Brunswick. Newfoundland also has many different rivers, most notably the Humber River that is the spawning ground for approximately sixty five percent of all the Atlantic salmon in the world, so it makes an idea fishing location in the early spring and late fall.
No matter where you want to go for excellent salmon fishing, Canada offers an ideal stream, river or coastal area that will meet your needs. Fly in fishing lodges, guided tours and fishing charters by trained, professional guides are a great idea for your first few visits, or at least until you find the hot spots that abound in most waterways.
