Exploring the Islands with Sport Fishing in Hawaii

From glass bottom boat tours to a Blue Marlin tag and release event, Hawaii is a top destination to take part in a sport fishing venture. Sport fishing in Hawaii is a valuable choice for traveling fishermen, or those looking for a new arena for pursuing their favorite hobby. Hawaii’s pristine waters and sunny sands are a welcome place for many fishing enthusiasts around the world, and learning and mastering the techniques for sport fishing in Hawaii is easy with a multitude of options on the islands.

Fishing Charters

Fishing charters are a great way to take a trip onto the ocean around the Hawaii islands, and share stories and experiences with other fishing enthusiasts. Fishing charters in Hawaii are rigged in a unique way using rods, holders, outriggers, and center riggers. Tournament fishing takes place regularly on these boats in Hawaii, and you’ll need to review entry fees and prepare the boat well before competition day. Charter boats for sport fishing in Hawaii are found in:

* Kauai
* Kona
* Maui
* Oahu
* Molokai

Many trips and excursions may also include private tours, whale watching, snorkeling, and amenities such as stereos and cabin spaces.

Fishing on the Island of Molokai

Sport fishing can take place on any island, but Molokai is a popular destination for both fishermen and travelers alike. Near shore fishing on this island takes place on the Manta Cat boat, and makes use of Shimano light tackle equipment and other fly fishing supplies. The fish in these waters are generally small table fish, but large reef fish are also released occasionally. The trips on these boats typically last about 4 hours, and are available through private charter.

Bottom Fishing Options for Sport Fishing in Waikiki

Bottom fishing options can include a tour of the waters and additional trips for night shark fishing and combo trolling. In Waikiki, sport fishing is a popular choice for residents and visitors alike. The Sashimi boats offer multi-passenger excursions on the water, and are equipped with barbeques on board for immediate serving. The target fish in the area include Akule, Opelu, Ta’ape, Snapper, Bonefish, Weke, Ulua, and Menpachi.

Sport Fishing Options in Maui

Maui is another top location in Hawaii for sport fishing enthusiasts. The most popular charter boats on this island include the Hinatea, Start Me Up, Ho’Okela, Power Cat Bottom Fishing boat, Hokua, and a variety of private offshore fishing charters. Afternoon bottom fishing trips are another popular activity on the island, along with whale watching trips and morning snorkeling.

Hawaii offers a multitude of options for sport fishing, and each island features its own set of target fish and charter boats to explore the waters!
