Long Range Fishing Trips In California
from:Long range fishing trips, or trips that last multiple days, are a great option for an avid fishing enthusiast. Trips over multiple days, from two to twenty-one days, are scheduled in various locations and throughout the year, and are especially popular in the waters off the coast of California.
In California, for example, trips of two to six days usually fish between 100 and 300 miles south of San Diego in the coastal waters of Baja California and the offshore islands of San Martin, Guadalupe, San Benitos, and Cedros. Target species on long range fishing trips of this nature are albacore, yellowfin tuna, bluefin tuna, big eye tuna, skipjack, yellowtail and calico bass.
Also in California long range fishing trips are offered from eight to twelve days that go farther away from the San Diego port. These trips usually fish 300 to 1000 miles south of San Diego at such places as Uncle Sam Bank, Alijos Rocks, the 23 Fathom Bank and Thetis Bank, targeting such fish varieties as yellowfin tuna, bluefin tuna, big eye tuna, yellowtail, wahoo and dorado.
From California to the Mexico area, the longest trips usually last between thirteen and twenty-one days. These trips fish along the Baja coast and the islands of Revilla Gigedos, including Clarian, Socorro and San Benedicto. In this location, lucky fishermen can catch yellowfin tuna from 200 to over 300 pounds and wahoo up to 100 pounds, which makes long range fishing trips well worth the effort! Not only is the fishing result grand the needed rest is also well worth the effort.
Many avid fishermen for a variety of reasons prefer long-range fishing. First, long-range fishing provides a special brand of excitement. The fishing on a long-range trip is usually focused on bigger and more exotic fish. During the trip, fish are stored below deck in refrigerated fish holds to keep the catch in frozen pristine condition, ensuring that your catch makes it back to port. Vessels operating extended long-range trips are fully self sufficient, and provide comfortable accommodations. These boats have excellent food service and carry the latest in electronics and fish finding equipment, adding luxury to your expedition.
Long range fishing trips usually range in price from $200 to $300 per day, including all meals. If you are taking a long-range trip in the California to Mexico area, you also must pay for Mexican fishing permits, and the cost for such permits varies. Most long-range fishing operations also offer special tackle rental packages suited to the length of the trip and the fish that will be targeted, making it an easy adventure.
