They also have black, red and orange spots scattered around on their sides. The brown trout averages about twelve inches in length but people have reported catching ones that was over eighteen inches. The brown trout are known to put up a fight just like the rainbow trout but in a different way. They tend to swim to the bottom of the water and try to hide under rocks and logs. These fish prefer streams that are full of minnows that have a slow moving flow to them.
